About Anti-Art Productions

I developed Anti-Art Productions in 1991 (then known as Anti-Art Studio) as a vehicle for my artistic endeavors. At that time, the endeavors were predominantly midi-based music though I was also beginning to get into collage and various literary styles.

When the Internet began to seriously flourish, I saw it as an opportunity to expose Anti-Art to a much wider audience in a very economical way. In the Spring of 1995, I began to develop a World Wide Web Site for Anti-Art Productions. Initially, it was just meant to be a site which featured examples of my own art and that of a few people close to me and provide the opportunity to receive feedback from the public.

The response from the very beginning was extremely favorable. I not only received very favorable feedback from those who patron the arts but also from those who create art themselves. I found this to be extremely stimulating because I was now able to communicate ideas and share experiences with people from all over the world who are involved in art. It was then that I realized that Anti-Art could and should be a collective art forum which features not only my work, but also the works of others who share similar viewpoints.

To date, there are nine artists featured on Anti-Art. The artists are from all over the United States as well as Sweden, Scotland and the Netherlands. In addition, through Anti-Art, I have met many other people involved in the arts in some fashion, who have become an invaluable resource to me both artistically and socially.

Currently, an official Anti-Art Manifesto, which will also feature Anti-Artist's visual and literary works, is being written by myself and Per Bergman, one of Anti-Art's principle co-conspirators. We hope to complete this work sometime late this winter after which we will be in contact with publishers to produce print copies. In addition, Per is working on developing an electronic version of the manifesto which can be distributed over the Internet. What follows is an excerpt of something which I have contributed to the manifesto:

"We exist within boundaries which are predefined by our senses. Our senses are, however, something which we interpret based upon our bodies reactions to external stimuli. A light shines in our face and we hold a hand up to cover. A cold blast of winds moves into the places we live and we take shelter with a warm coat. However, these are just the body's interpretation of the "facts". Different bodies have differing tolerances to these stimuli. There are no absolutes. Our minds, which formulate our cultural aspects, behave in the same manner. Liberals, conservatives, the religious, the atheistic...all groups of people who interpret "reality". The cultural stimulus is the same, however, it is the interpretation of these stimuli which drives our reactions to them. In a humanistic sense, there are no realities and truths. There are only manipulations of the input in our collective societal minds.

Anti-Art recognizes this dilemma and exists to formulate alternative realities which of course, may not necessarily be closer to the "truth" (if indeed, such a thing exists) but at the very least it is a beacon to indicate that there indeed need be the questioning of what we consider to be fact, truth, morality, etc.

Anti-Art wishes to deconstruct and rebuild that which society accepts and grab said society by the lapels and force it to look into a prism which refracts alternatives. Yes, it is true that Anti-Art is still forced to use the same sensorial tools but the crucial difference lies in Anti-Art's ability and willingness to accept that the tools need to be constantly challenged and forced into new parameters of perception."
