Flag Burning - The Reasons Why

In response to someone that said "Anyone who burned flags was eating a retard sandwich and should be shipped to Neptune," I have only this to say.

Flag burning has a very specific point and impact. The American Flag is a symbol of what our country stands for. What is our country based on? Read the DOI and the Constitution and pay particular care to the Bill of Rights which is what the ACLU protects.

In a nutshell, we can be guaranteed freedom of speech, freedom from religion, freedom to decline housing militia, freedom to bear arms, and the freedom to overthrow an oppressive government. My nutshell is by no means all there is to it.

The moment my government inhibits my rights as a citizen is the moment I will burn the flag, for that flag no longer represents what this country is founded on. Let me say that again: the moment my government inhibits my rights is the moment I burn the flag, for that flag, that very government, no longer represents what this country is about. That's the point, folks. It's our RIGHT to object and use whatever means, within the Bill of Rights and the law, to demonstrate it.

Why burn the flag and why do people get in an uproar? Because of the very ideal that it symbolizes. To destroy something so symbolic to us as a nation is a strong statement, indeed. It is intended to incite; it's intended to make you take stock in your own values.

The flag *is* merely a piece of fabric. However, it is easy to understand why we put so much stock in that symbol. Better to burn the flag rather than to burn our legislators, no?

I don't care what reason people use to burn the flag for the very notion that they obviously feel the gesture is needed. Would I burn the flag? Hell yeah. Why? Because I can and it is one of the ways that I can demonstrate my outrage at what my government is imposing upon me, a citizen.

If someone wants to burn the flag as a gesture opposing any US involvement in International conflict, go for it! Be heard and do what it takes!! That's what free speech is all about!!

If I want to burn the flag because the government oppresses me and removes my rights, I do it not only for myself, but for others sharing my plight, and those of you who would like to retain your own rights had better take heed.

In my opinion, outlawing flag burning is one of the first steps of an oppressive government. I dread that day if it comes, and rest assured, this law-abiding citizen will be out there breaking the law every chance she gets.

My voice will not be squelched, and I can thank the very ideal of what this country stands for giving me that passion, that very right to object to any restriction thereof.

The day may come when your government turns against you. Are you prepared to fight back? Or will you simply fling out inciteful comments like "eating a retard sandwich?" Please don't insult my intelligence. People who don't think about the implications and can't see past the end of their nose are expected to make such asinine comments.

If those of us that support flag burning partake of retard sandwiches, then you can rest assured I won't burn a flag in your defense against your government. Rest easy. :) You can whine and bemoan the existence of the pile of crap you allowed to grow. I won't. It's my right to protest and to rid my home, my country of that offal. I dare you to stop me.
