The images I create adapt Religious, Mythical and Fantasy images into personal, private-made-public statements.
The subject matter depicted is decidedly spiritual in its content, dealing with the mysterious spirituality found in many mythological and religious ideas. Since childhood, I have always, one way or another, been interested in the mysterious spirituality found in many mythological and religious ideas. I was especially drawn to the ancient stories, myths and legends of many cultures from around the world. This interest carried over into adulthood and began to subtly, and subconsciously invade the imagery of my work.
When creating a piece, the forms I used grew more and more symbolic. Soon these images began dredging up mythological, spiritual and dream inspired symbols that I had not actively thought of for years. With these images in mind, I began to delve into this reawakened realm of my ideas and symbols with renewed interest.
While in the process of creating a piece, I try not to consider the details of
the story or images I have in mind. I try to let my feelings and experiences
with the ideas and images flow naturally into my work. I pre-plan only two
things at the beginning of a piece: where the forms will be and their
correlation to each other within the overall design, and, the pre-planned
enhancement of a feeling of other worldliness by working mostly
monochromatically. Working monochromatically helps take the viewer one more step
away from their reality and one step closer towards a reality where dreams,
myths and legends walk, breath and feel.
