There Are Times
There are times when I can feel
The stars move through my soul
The heartbeat of the universe pulse
In the starlight of my veins,
Water like light, coursing endlessly
Through endless worlds, only to begin again..
There are times when I can feel true gratitude
For the generosity of my days
Then laugh at the upkeep of this star-spun body
With its sputtering starts and multifold delays..
Feed the body; let it sleep
Let it shout and spill laughter,
Laughter to slaughter doubts and demons
Lurking in the untilled flowerbeds of my keep.
Bathe the body; brush its teeth
Let it cry and shudder and weep
One thousand tears of light to nourish the ground
Where sleeping souls seek some buried morsels,
Where roots of wisdom begin to venture deep..
Stretch the body and let it breathe
Exercise its imagination and set it free
From these curls and overwrought head
That rejoices in these days of understanding
Before a faultless rest, when finally it is dead.
One thing I know with certainty
I shall not rest in eternity
Nor shall I merely shimmer with twinkling stars
That cast their light far overhead..
I shall be on Creation's planning committee
To correct the joy that spills out unfettered
And which humankind has altered in fear, with dread..
I shall wear dreadlocks of suns upon my shoulders
Burnished moonbeams in my hair
I shall adorn my maleness with shooting comets
And with modesty, some quiet moons I'll share..
A cape of galaxies to spread before me
Like a picnic celestial, splendid and rare
Where those who love Creation shall meet
To bring to realization all yet to unfold -
And you shall be there!
