Between Heartbeats
In the soft twilight, when no one is around,
Who speaks to you?
Under the canopy of the midnight sky
When beyond the afterglow of the city's signs
You know that an enormous blanket of stars is glowing,
Do you feel a single point of light that whispers your name?
Far below, on continents and deltas and cement fields,
People are scurrying,
Farms are tracking the genetic yields
of soybeans on computers,
As Wall Street is rollicking on a spastic rodeo ride.
This cannot be real.
What is real is the space
Between
The beating of your heart
When Spirit
speaks to your soul.
