Transitions Everyday

Susan Kramer

Transitions are happening every moment, even during the seeming constancy of daily life.

From the stillness before rising in the morning, we spend moments transitioning into the active time of our day; then at bedtime slip in a gradual transition into rest and peace.

Major transitions stand out more in life than the cycles of the day, but in principle they are the same. It is the time when life is not settled that we may feel a polarity of energy; either a sense of increased energy, or on the other hand, lethargy.

Change a constant in this world
Transitions happening moment to moment

Some practical tips for making smooth transitions when feeling stress are:
1. Even breathing. Counts 1, 2, breathe in; counts 3, 4 breathe out; continue this pattern with no breath retention.
2. Walking (or running, jogging, swimming, etc.). Use the even breathing technique and swing arms back and forth; when the left foot steps forward the right arm swings forward.
3. Change activity. If feeling anxious immerse in a different project.
4. Meditate. Sit still and think lovingly about at least one person.
5. Look out the window and pay attention to what is happening at a distance; watch the sky; watch the traffic.
6. Do a deep relaxation or take a nap.

The idea is to get the energy and mind on a different track for awhile to refresh and gain perspective on the situation.

The Steadfast Inner Pole

Amidst outer change, amidst transition is the ever-steadfast inner vibration; the experience in consciousness where we can hold tight in energized peace; in joy. To find this place of constancy and joy sit still for some moments, relax, think lovingly about someone, think positive thoughts and notice the gentle hum seemingly emanating from under the crown of the skull. Continue to listen to this soothing melody. When events outside or mental stress build up retreat to this inner pool of shimmering joy; listen to the inner sound and again feel physically and mentally revitalized.

Enjoin with the steadfast inner sound
when transitions are spiraling too fast
Regaining, reclaiming
calm, composure, peace, joy
