Workplace Spirituality -
One-Day
Retreat Outline

Kramer
Preparation: Reading
materials copied and handed out ahead of time; homework assignment in preparation
for the discussion. Prepare a page of the day's schedule to hand out. If
possible, have a copy of the lecture ready to hand out at the end of the
day for the participants' review.
I. Opening prayers or inspirational reading.
II. Lecture on topic by retreat leader.
III. Discussion between
participants and retreat leader, and responses of participants to each
other's thoughts.
Break
for Refreshment/Restroom
IV. Divide up into partners or larger
groups and have each
member play the part of employer and employee in turn with the goal being
to collaborate over a workplace situation for a best outcome for all.
Break
for Lunch
V. Opening prayers or inspirational reading.
VI. Walking meditation for
a period of reflection on the topic of the retreat. Take a long silent
walk single file outside in nature (or inside by walking around the border
of room). Perhaps this time of silent
reflection on the lessons of the morning will help each participant set
a new tone and tempo and personal goal in their job.
Break
for Restroom
VII. Relaxed sharing time
between participants talking about what they learned from the day and their
goals for themselves in the workplace.
VIII. Closing prayers or inspirational
reading, silent reflection, joyful song to close retreat.
I feel the above outline
for a 6 to 8 hour retreat day
balances learning, practice in collaboration,
reflection
and is a time for sharing new insights.
