Millennium is a visual analysis and spiritual journey exploring the concept of an alliance of humanity traveling into the next millennium. The intent of the project is to visually stimulate a perspective of tellurian communication which has begun further exploration throughout the universe.
The project was begun in 1996 after analyzing and questioning certain aspects of human societal evolution. Predictions of millennial life which include: nature, health, industry, population were analyzed and conjectures of the future were made.
Focusing on such utopian concepts as "oneness of being" and "universal cognitive thought", the idealistic structures of these concepts were decidedly visualized through images of space and exploration.
Figure types which mask gender and race float throughout each montage, representing a physical and intellectual evolution to higher province of thought and achievement. In this millennial theory, humanity has progressed to a new level of ability. The individual now reaches toward a new diplomacy of global relationship and communication; he or she works toward global solidarity. This, in part, has lead to a new era of exploration beyond the boundaries of his home world.
A harmony of mind, body and soul, humanity embarks on a new era of being. Searching outward to higher forms of existence in consciousness and physical being, civilization enters an utopian cycle in time.
To understand these concepts, images of space and planetary symbolize the idea of an exploration towards utopia. Images retrieved from the Hubbell Space telescope along with various other NASA and scientific photographs are evidence of our contemporary search and struggle to learn more about the science of space. Our natural curiosity about humanity's role and place in the universe are still evident even though our struggle to travel physically to these worlds has diminished since Apollo 11.
Millennium was conceived as a Internet/World Wide Web based visual installation which featured 12 digital photographic montage images. HTML code was used to present a flowing exhibit of images which are easily and purposefully navigated. The common thread which pulls the surfer throughout the installation is the animated icon of earth. This singular and symbolic animated image, morphs itself into a dozen various forms as the icon streams around each page of the visual journey.
