Green Shoots (Opened)

Imagine if you could cut yourself some slack
And not bear down on yourself
To be the person you are yet becoming

Imagine if you could breath with the changes
   Instead of crying in frustration
To the missing pieces or things

      Not in place
      Misplaced --

Are you not in a state of grace
      Ask yourself to

Imagine if your spirit was free
And you were not tinged by sadness

Imagine if the simple hinges of each day Opened

To doing exactly what brought joy,
Or being without the restraints of judgment

Finding fault when those faults are just a place
for the ground to open up

               Imperfect cracks from which spring
               Green shoots of flowers.

(I know the earth shakes. You tremble.
I know that when you remove the mask of composure
There is a raw pulsating sap,

And it isn't blood which bleeds from your heart,
   But nectar, not expressed,
The most tender & fragile pieces of sweetness left unsaid.

It is condensed light and understanding deep in the fissures.
As I peer in your eyes, there is syrup, syrup, spinning filigrees,

Filaments and threads of some intangible essence which washes
Across the watercolors of eternity like a double cloak of sadness
Which needs only to be turned inside-out. Pull out the sleeves

of your understanding and find the joy)
