Her paintings are done in alkyd paint on canvas and masonite. Her illustrations are created in Adobe photoshop.
"I work from images in photographs. I scan the photographs and manipulate them in Photoshop. Use of color is always the most problematic thing for me, so I am able to try out dozens of color choices on the computer before settling on a finished image. Then I do a rough printout of the manipulated image, and using a grid system, transfer the image onto the board. I apply the paint rather thinly, wiping, scumbling, and glazing. Most of the pantings are pretty dark; I'm trying to lighten it up a bit. For the illustrations done on the computer, I draw freehand using a mouse right onto the blank screen and keep revising and changing the image. My computer images are alot more colorful and whimsical than my paintings.
"I generally paint people, and they are usually children. The illustrations I do are usually things a young child would enjoy. I have two small children so that isn't too surprising."
