Psychological Piracy

To put a new slant on a song from Gilbert and Sullivan opera, The Pirates of Penzance:

When there are Psychological duties to be done, to be done,
A psychologist lot is not an easy one...easy one.

Although modern science has progressed more in the past hundred years than in any time in human history, humanity in general seems to be less happy than ever. Exploring the psychology of the mind is no easy task, because the mind is a bottomless pit of neurosis. Once one neurosis is dealt with, the mind will dream up another one after a good night's disturbed sleep.

Albert Einstein said; "It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure."

When we view the actions of a very disturbed mind that commits acts of mass murder, we discover it is very unbalanced. That statement seems simple enough: "A mass murderer's mind is disturbed and unbalanced," but how did it get into such a state of insanity? Who or what is responsible for the chemical imbalances of the mind?

We know diet is a factor and that is an arena of information all in itself. We also understand a lack of exercise will make the mind and body sluggish. And we also discern that a child's environment and background will play a major part in the way the mind matures and grows. DNA and genes also play a part. Babies born with genetic defects have inherited the defective genes from past generations. Someone in the family, long ago, produced erroneous thoughts (maybe from traumatic experiences) that lead to an unsound lifestyle. Over a period of time their thought pattern produced mutated cells that were passed on through conception. They were probably at an old age when they passed on the defective cells. Although science has not come to this conclusion just yet...it will in time.

But none of this helps in knowing why someone like Hitler would want to exterminate a whole race of people. Or today, why Bin Laden wants to destroy Western civilization. Perhaps these two hideous monsters are just the manifestation of extremes in their religion/society....... Which is founded on the manifestation of limited knowledge within their countries. Which is founded on the opposite doctrines and dogmas of other countries. A merry-go-round of man made knowledge enacted from 'The world society of serious teachings.'...... None of which originated from an authentic foundation of universal wisdom.

The true cure of every dis-ease is prevention of dis-ease. Therefore, before a psychologist can treat a patient they need to ascertain how balanced are their own minds? (Please don't squirm, I am not being critical) Indeed, how balanced are the minds of everyone they know. The honest answer is, every so-called normal person flies flags that project their tribe's point of view.

Separate religious views, assortments of non-religious views, right wing political views, left wing political views, academic views, spiritual views etc, etc, etc. How many of these views contain a 360% projection of everything on earth and beyond? If the mind is not centered like a hub in a wheel, how can its objectivity produce balanced thoughts?

Consequently, every person who lives with views that are not centered will find conflict with contradictory views. This could and certainly does convey messages to healthy cells in human bodies so that they start to conflict with each other. This turns the body's mechanism into one that destroys healthy cells. At the same time it rejuvenates unhealthy, villainous cells that produce disease ridden bacteria that eat away at the immune system. To put it bluntly: We become mass murders of our own good cells by ill-founded, terrorizing mental information. So how do we overcome erroneous thoughts?

To grow healthy plants, a new crop of produce needs to be planted in cultivated fields, free of all past crops. Accordingly, how can authentic thoughts be planted in a mind filled with a complete education of one-sided opinion? How is the human brain expected to grow a bountiful harvest of thought that will yield a harmonious, worry free, peace loving society?

Most neurosis, anxiety and depression come from a lack of love and a lack of joy. The deficiency of authentic feelings is manifested in fear-based ideas, beliefs, perceptions and images. There is an ancient Zen story that teaches the source of all fears.

A couple had been married for fifty years. The wife was a very neurotic, possessive lady. One day she discovered she had an incurable disease and had only a few days to live. She told her husband she did not want him to marry anyone else, for she knew every thought in his head. If he did marry anyone else she said she would come back from the grave and haunt him for the rest of his life. Since she was dying he promised her on her deathbed that he would marry no other woman.

She died and in due course he met another charming lady, fell in love and decided to get married. Sure enough that very night the deceased wife's ghost came back terrorizing him with her shrieking and yelling. He could not get one moment's peace, sleep eluded him. He was at his wit's end.

He heard of a wise man in the village and went to him for advice. The man of wisdom declared that he did indeed experience a very clever ghost who knew every thought in his head. He told him what he must do when he goes home and gets ready for bed.

That night the ghost reappeared on time as usual and began her torments. He had put a bag of beads under his bed. He put his hand into the bag and pulled out a handful of beads. He held his clenched fist up to the ghost and proclaimed "How many beads do I have in my hand?" Without any further-to-do the ghost disappeared and was never seen or heard again.

The cause of all humankind's problems stems from what we know, therefore, the remedy exists in the fields of pure potential that humanity does not know. The fact psychologists have a degree and a high standard of education does not mean they can treat their patients only by past methods.

In the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson;

"We are students of words: we are shut up in a schools and colleges and recitation-rooms for ten or fifteen years, and come out at last with a bag of wind, a memory of words, and do not know a thing."

The fact that depression and anxiety attacks are on the increase means the timeworn, recognized methods are not working as well as they should. Once we can establish that the cure can only come from what we do not know, we can then progress with a free open mind. A mind that is balanced and centered so that it can view all aspects of human life and see it as one spoke in a universal wheel.

Humanity was never the reason why our world exists. It was formed without human intervention, however, it may be destroyed because of human ignorance. Rationalization tells us love and joy is the reason why humans exist, for if we lose that realization, then existence itself just becomes a humorless miscalculation.

The Pirates of Penzance does have a happy ending, but if humanity does not find new authentic methods to find ways of preventing mental illness, the psychologists' lot will become an even harder one. The physiological pirated mind will end up in Davy Jones' locker and who will be left to dive deep down into the mind with the keys of authentic meaning?

"You cannot teach a man anything.; you can only help him to find it for himself."_Galileo Galilei
