ah, the walking shallows
are they
in your neighborhood?
( cue music )
some of them - could be
a deep well
or a pond
or even
a coffee cup, mug?
it's all bodies
portable containers / bodies of knowledge
spaces & places
Containers of grace to fill the soul.
But most
walking shallows
are splish - splashing
lot of droplets
not much depth -
You can try to fill them up
but their cups - containers
can't hold much. Feeling a little dry / i feel like crying -
They're walking shallows
don't i repeat don't -
take it personally
there isn't sufficient depth
enough experience possibly
by design
There simply isn't a place
for substance to be stored. don't be floored
you're not the groundskeeper
of portable plastic gardens.
who appointed you - - mother nature?
The energy is this /
no matter how much you water them
it doesn't soak in
once i even turned a hose on one
and it actually rolled off my tears, that is!
of course that was my watering hose
and it was sunday
and i was filled with luminous hope from church
But the spirit didn't hold
guess the person was too holy? Oh HO HO holy, it's our holy days.
we can't just go watering & nurturing people praying they could grow
funny - each of us
wanting sacred connections
to something
or someone
You seek perhaps to fill them up
but your efforts merely create wasteful overflows
or worse
drip -
drip -
drips
Off the expectations, they must fall,
once the shallow end is full, the rest has nowhere to go
and if you try to carve them deeply
or get to the bottom
They get angry or brittle
or stiff and break
then they get punctured. when you pierce someone trying to help
you simply make a mess
they have no pockets of understanding
to contain what you'd truly like to give
Some of them dress quite nicely
giving appearances of passable depth
but they are merely walking shallows
walking shallows
And no matter how much you desire to fill them
or be fulfilled by them, your thirst can't ever be sated
Unless of course you too are a walking shallow
you could not know the difference!
hey it's only a poem lighten up
i'm sure you're very deep maybe the bottomless deep!
just possibly
an ocean
